A lot of time I find it very difficult to write about selfless individuals back home. Tonight I must however write a little about this beautifully created mother.
Ale Diqo is a model of strength and generosity, she is one most generous, kind - hearted sprit I have ever known, she is indeed a mother who everyone wish to have as a mum in every life, fortunate is the son who calls her mum. As a long time neighbour she watched me growing up in front of her eyes, I remember how mischievous one me is but every time I commit some mistakes(dropping stones on her house and I understand how noisy a mabati is when even a drop of rain drops on it. what about Elwak ' s heavy stones? ) she would find it very easy in her heart to forgive me, she never complained against me or has she ever reported me to my parents. Offcourse I will never forget tell how I cried one sunday morning upon seeing her sitting with my mum in our home, thinking that she came to report me to my parents because I teased a girl who was under her guardian the day before that Sunday(probably that girl is happily married now with five children if not more). I still don't know why she opted to cover up my mistake, perhaps her motherly instincts prevented her, or perhaps my tears sent a sign of guilt and repentance to her heart . She is a bank of secrecy!
My interaction with Mama Ale Diqo in late 2014 inspired me a lot. When her own son Abdikalif Adan presented to me an idea of environment conservation which gave birth to Nomad Green Belt movement she didn't think for a second, she hurriedly joined the idea giving us moral and material support without her effort Nomad Green Belt movement would have been a dream waiting for its time.
She started by providing a tiny nursery space inside her plot, watered the seedlings, protected the seedlings from street goats (kunuunos ), fuelled the vehicle we used in our first project and upto now she is taking care of more 2000 seedlings in her plot, she is the only woman who believes in a healthy environment and committed in Greening Mandera county and by extension the whole world. She is the backbone of Nomad Green Belt movement.
Mama Ale Diqo is part part of women for peace, she religiously believes in peaceful coexistence between communities in Mandera county. She is independent thinker who always finds times to vist girls schools to give motivational talks and advice young girls so that will grow up to become respectable young women.
Mama Ale Diqo is a God gift human to humanity! I celebrate her.
