It does culturally believe that people with disability can't do farming practice and some of Kenyan disables cannot inherit farm's because of their natural disability. For the purpose of streamlining Nomad Green Belt Movement had learnt that Mr. Rekiso, a disable have a vast portion of dormant land that he inherited Islamically from his parents to show disability is not inability and that other disable to follow his footsteps. NGBM is in front line to motivate him to undertake agricultural activities to create alternative livelihood for him.
The land of his farming are very attractive, amazing, breathtaking if
one walk inside to confirm for his eyes as it's images can be powerful
enough to change things for the better, like many of his under going
projects it has sparkled many people interest, causing constructive
debate and often many times get so much attention and his diversity is
his strength as he believes to bring together different skills.
NGBM, through reform of people with disability we motivated Mr. Rekeso and shared with him when he participated in Mandera County disabled Race for peace where he became 2nd position and qualified for the national competitions to represent Mandera County at Isiolo County where he managed to get position seven and he was also a trained volleyball coached for the people at Kasarani.
NGBM is currently organising his farming activities which are agro-forestry, interlocking brick making, poultry and bee hives project as they are consulting the area chief Mr. Hassan Mohamed Manur, agriculture extension services and youth enterprise development on creep way forward t
o promote the project which we believe as a pilot project for all people with disability that they can make their income.
Challenges he was facing; lack of water for farming and brick laying. It was expensive to undertake his agricultural project as he transport water far more than 4KM with donkey cat, lack of proper farm perimeter fencing and lack of farm tools and implement.
The NGBM have congratulated him for the awesome discovery and spreading awareness about such great place. He builds the foundation but now needs support from any interested well-wishers to help him in his journey. His work is legendary and definitely deserve to be seen and supported by everyone. We need to create an enabling environment where there is opportunity for entrepreneurship.
