A USEFUL HISTORY THAT PASSED AWAY UNNOTICED

Ardha Qorobo is a landmark history between Borehole 11 and Mandera South Sub-County headquarter. Abdiaziz Haji Adan at age 50 years still remember the Tree to be a place birth of his late Haji Adan Abdulla.

Ardha Qorobo is suitable grazing site for goats, home to the famous Sheikh Ali Aliow (Dera) Issack Waqo, with passionate impression and love he had shown immensely sharing with #Nomad Green Belt Movement, he sought for a group photo with the team in memory of more than 200 years old Ardha Qorobo. This is historic but life is full of beauty at Ardha.

A very useful history that passed un noticed, as you look at the pictures below a big landmark is down between Elwak and Borehole 11, the big 'Qorobo' at Ardha is down. Trees help record the history of your family as they grow and develop alongside you and your kids.

We often make an emotional connection with Trees we plant or become personally attached to the ones that we see every day. These strong bonds are evidenced by the hundreds of groups and organizations across the Country that go to great lengths to protect and save particularly large or historic Trees from the dangers of modern development. But on the other hand I'm quiet delighted Nomad Green Belt movement (NGBM) Tree planting project is changing the face of the new Kutulo Sub-County making it environmentally sustainable and aesthetically beautiful for both human-habitat development.

NGBM applaud and recommend local communities to protect and preserve nature, plant more Trees and replace the deforestation with afforestation activities. Trees are an important part of every community. Our streets, parks, playgrounds and backyards are lined with Trees that create a peaceful, aesthetically pleasing environment. Trees increase our quality of life by bringing natural elements and wildlife habitats into our settings.

We gather under the cool shade they provide during outdoor activities with family and friends. As example given of Ardha Qorobo many neighborhoods are also the home of very old trees that serve as historic landmarks and a great source of town pride. Trees have supported and sustained life throughout our existence.

TERROR GROUPS MAKING HEADLINES IN TWO COUNTIES!

Yesterday Somalia based terror group raided Diif police station in Wajir County and to have stolen: 10,000 bullets, 13 AK-47 assault weapons, and police uniforms while in Mandera County last evening a private civilian Toyota heading to Lafey for a funeral 5KM past Sheikh Barrow area, between Arabia and Lafey town have been ambushed by terrorists, 2 injured, one mother passed on while the fate of the other passengers is unknown.

Nomad Green Belt Movement team is trying it's best on how to end terror group terrorising our border towns thus we come up with the followings recommendation & strategies for implementation:
1. The communities living along borders needs capacity building on information sharing in the fight against terrorism.
2. NEP communities living along the boarders should be trained on good citizenship and providing relevant information
3. The chiefs should be trained on capacity building on the new technological advancement and reporting techniques.
4. Revive Nyumba Kumi initiative and take  quick action to avert terrorism taking place.
5. The 900 KPR requested by NEP Governors should be given the capacity to deal with terror group (Specialise training on counter terrorism).

6. The police should serve as coordinating body in information exchange between the chief and the community. They should act on every information swiftly, act on every reported cases of terror swiftly and build trust by observing confidentiality of the informant.
7. All suspected cases should be treated and dealt with the seriousness they deserve.

The government should ban all illegal activities giving economic support to terror groups i.e hawilad, tax payment, charcoal burning and farming. NGBM volunteer team will be enlightening people with good beliefs, wash terror ideologies, thoughts and with better education awareness we can change their mind set. Power of word is much greater than using weapons!

THE FIGHT AGAINST INFANT MORTALITY RATE & KICK MALARIA OUT OF AFRICA

In these day or age when there's an increasing  infant mortality rates and malaria affecting thousands of pregnant mothers or children Nomad Green Belt Movement (NGBM) is implementing a counter malaria attacks. Mortality rates is a major problem in Mandera County, in addition to the recent outbreaks of triple epidemic (Dengue fever, Chikungunya& Cholera) where much of the population was at risk. While on the other part of the world every year, malaria infected mosquitoes kill more than 600,000 people, mostly in every 60 seconds, a child dies from malaria.

Through NGBM Malaria prevention initiatives a lot of activities has been carried out to reduce the Malaria burden in Mandera County through health education or promotion, participatory community health meetings, formation of malaria task force in residential areas who shall enable the spray and distribute treated mosquito nets and recommend the affected patients of dengue fever and Chikungunya to go for malaria test and treatment at the nearest health facility.

NGBM conducted the task of distributing insecticide treated mosquito nets, as well as spraying residential homes and highly susceptible environment with larvaecide for malaria by draining away stagnant water, clearing filth or litters within the sorroundings  to control, eliminate, and create malaria free Africa Continent.

Malaria is a critical disease which may be fatal. In order to prevent Malaria  in Africa, especially Coastal, and Northern Kenya which is our area of focus, the most suitable preventive methods such as Insecticide-treated bed nets are often the most cost-effective way to prevent malaria transmission. Concerted efforts should be done to tackle the disease or reduce it's menace. One of the best ways to prevent malaria is the regular use of treated mosquito nets.

IMPACT OF TERROR ACTIVITIES ON WILDLIFE, ENVIRONMENT & PEACE

The insecurity which has remained a source of confusion among the residents of Mandera County due to sporadic attacks from Alshabab is also having huge ramification on the wildlife, environment and wanton destruction of telecommunication networks and water tanks along the borders.

It never captured the attention of many including the relevant authorities but must be known for record that, Alshabab terror networks have preying on antelopes and other wild animals for their survivals in the bushes. They also cut Trees and burn forests to divert the attention of the people especially the electricity poles burnt. Few will choose to focus on the negative impact of these terrorist attacks on the environment but it must get the hype it requires to take action.

Apart from human loss, the insurgent have destroyed forest cover and wildlife habit. NGBM volunteer team, appeal to KWS and other relevant authorities such as Ministry of environment, wildlife and tourism to consider the protection of wildlife and the environment from Alshabab's interferences. We highlight this issue based on report which emerged that insurgents have destroyed the flora and fauna while they known to hide themselves in the thick bushes or forests and two lions cannot share the same jungle, one must be a victim of elimination. So is Alshabab terrorising the environment and wildlife habitat which contributes to climate change? The terrorists engage in illegal ivory trade for funding of terrorism activities. Previously, in Kismayu Alshabab depended on charcoal business but KDF take over of the Kismayu port reduced their influence over deforestation which affects global warming in the world.

Terrorism has negatively impacted on tourism, investments and economic downturn for Kenya and the rest of the world.

NGBM team acknowledges that it will be difficult, though possible, to achieve this target if the frenzy of wildlife poaching continues. The malicious impact of terrorism makes people's lives more expensive; it erodes local residents confidence and security credibility. Let us introspect and ask what we have contributed to make life better, our environment better to live and conducive for our future generations? Let us take a pledge to not to destroy what we can't create and make life better for every life form. Help to spread the words as your kids and their future generation to be able to cherish the natural heritage and ecosystem is preserved just like it is meant to be.

PEACE & UNITY CRUCIAL

(Courtesy of Daily  Nation Newspaper EDITORIAL SECTION)

The calls for peace, security, reconciliation and unity during Thursday’s celebrations marking the end of the holy month of Ramadhan reflect rising concern about threat of violence in the country. One worrying trend is the danger posed by external radical groups and their Kenyan allies. The Somalia-based al-Shabaab have been radicalising and recruiting Kenyan youth into their terrorist network and taking them across the border for training.

Of course, the terrorists misinterpret the scriptures to suit their devious missions. At the core of Islam and other religions is the philosophy of peace and love for fellow human beings. Religion is thus a true force for good and an avenue through which to triumph over evil.

Unfortunately, this is being subverted by people driven by a warped ideology of hate and destruction. The majority of religious leaders and imams have been preaching the correct message to youth, who, sadly, are vulnerable to manipulation. But there is a need for the Muslim clerics to help isolate the crooks hiding behind the religion to sow seeds of discord among peace-loving Kenyans.

With Muslims and others coming together for the celebrations, the public holiday, Eid al-Fitr, provided a welcome opportunity to emphasise the need for unity among all Kenyans, irrespective of their religious, ethnic and other differences.

THE IRONY OF SOMALIA'S INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

As Somalia marked it's Independence Day yesterday, the Mandera County was under attack. Two buses were ambushed, 6 innocent kenyans killed and 12 more innocent lives injured. There were too many previous worrying incidence of terror attacks in Mandera and Kenya at large. We have remained disenfranchised yet hopeful of a reduction in terror activities nonetheless Somalia based Islamists Al-shabab terror group continually targeted innocent people inside our territories.

On the day Somalia commomerates their independence, Kenyans especially Manderians were mourning loss of their loved ones killed in #Mandera buses attack.

Somalia's Independence celebrations for Kenya meant a horrific encounter with state of terrorism. The day before the marking of the somali independence day, Turkey Airport was attacked by terrorists. Such devilish work on the last ten days of Holy month of Ramadan is absolutely unislamic and ungodly. The most painful attack heralds a DARK DAY in history of a nation marking an independence with tragedy.

Somalia is a big blow or a miscalculation to Kenya and it's neighbours spreading diseases such as Malaria 'Chikungunya' that affected more 1.2 million kenyan citizens and terrorism fever.

The people of Mandera are unable to live a normal life of social political economic development and healthy lifestyle because of Somalia lawlessness or instability coupled with lack of functioning institutions especially-health sector, enforcement of law and order.

The Kenya Defence Force (KDF) troops presence in Somalia viewed as a hurdle for terrorist survival is similarly viewed as a basis for increased Al-shabab attacks on Kenyan people, creating a state of fear and anarchy/ destruction. While we acknowledge KDF has restored peace and order in Somalia, there still remain a huge challenge to contain internal attacks.

Kenya anticipated, as neighbouring county, participation of Somalia independent day memories and enjoy its peace, unfortunately delving us into a sad state of grief and death on the bus attack.

We recommend Somalia to rethink it's relationship with its neighbours by directly addressing their domestic political issues and unite to reduce the growing interference of both internal and external terror attacks or threats.

Mandera county is inhabited by Somali communities with some family ties across neighbouring Somalia. The cross border and family links between these towns/villages should not be used as a doormats to launch attacks on non-somali/non-locals working or operating in North Eastern Province (NEP) region.

Somalia people or families have experienced the ugly terror problems long before its stretching to Kenya. Therefore, they should support Kenya in the fight against terror group Al-shabab. What puzzling for kenyan authorities a times is that of differentiating Somali Kenya and Somali of Somalia along the borders due to God given family ties Somalia/Kenya as people have  similar religion, language, business or culture is difficult for security agencies to identify and deal without the full cooperation of communities within Kenya.

The Somalia Independence Day should instead be maximised to deradicalise somalia youths who are causing instability in the neighbouring countries. Absence of a strong government in Somalia that controls its territory has contributed to this cross border incursions. The Kenyan government has clearly shown in the past that it lacks capacity to police its border with Somalia. On top of that there is the issue of unwillingness and sheer neglect as the area across the border is inhabited by Somalis of similar origin. This has given the Alshabab  militants a free movement across the border line.

The kenyan government should take charge of the situation and continue to speed up the perimeter wall around the border to separate the bad guys. Meanwhile, Somalia-Kenya nation should be friendly to address it's common enemy.

TERROR GROUP ATTACK MANDERA BUS

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of innocent people killed by the terrorist attack in #Mandera bus. Nomad Green Belt Movement wish the injured speedy recovery and patience to both the afflicted families or other passengers over the ordeal. Our thoughts are with you during such trials, lets stand firm and show solidarity with our fellow citizens during this sad moment when attack has been meted out on because they are innocent, not deserving such cowardly acts.

Terrorism is the arch enemy of mankind and development. The World should unite in one voice, condemn and eliminate terrorism of any kind anywhere. NGBM volunteers team and our leaders should speak about ending this attacks and be in the forefront in the fight against frequent terror attack. We condemn this heinous and grisly act of terror. Our thought and prayers are with the families of the innocent lives lost.
