#MESSAGE TO NORTHERN KENYA ROAD CONTRACTORS

NGBM PLAN TO PLANT 15 MILLION TREES IN 2016

This year NGBM volunteer team target is to plant 15 Million trees. The Trees that can unite people all over the Northern Kenya region a build ambassadors a gardener and desert forest creater. Plant a fruit trees in your plot, encouraged, motivates your friends, neighbours, family and friends to practice and share the harvest with both 80 peoples of friend and family.

Let us preserve our culture and hold to its beauty to unite us together and refrain from tribal clashes that always causes environmental destruction when two clans are at war. Instead of putting together all our energy and efforts towards tribal clashes let's unite, create great lovely neighbourhood, green our desert region and fight climate change.

Develop dry land forest, plant a fruit tree, share the ideas, teamwork and share the harvest. Together, we can inspire the planting of millions of trees that feed our communities around the globe. Let's make this year count!

NGBM plan and goal is to give any households, individual and group/ organisations seeds, let them grow their food and then let them have it. Thanks everyone! There's no better food than the ones we grow ourselves

A food forest mimics how a wild forest works, but swaps in species that are edible or otherwise useful to humans and other animals. Imagine if each community park hosted a mini food forest!

Let's create a new normal where our communities are lined in gardens and fruit trees providing an abundance for all. Plant a front yard garden and start making ripples on your block!

Let's create a new normal where our communities are lined in kitchen gardens and fruit trees providing an abundance for  Nature never ceases to amaze us. Let's take care of each other and this beautiful planet we share. Thank you for all that you do and all that you are!

We are thinking of organising tree planting contest. Which we will set a date and do everything online. If all members in this forum can share idea on how we will do that competition.

Join the team  and plant a tree whenever you're and share the pictures please.

THE 9th WONDERS OF THE WORLD

MAGNIFICENT MIGRATORY BIRDS
The white city turned out to be the biggest place for the beautiful endangered migratory birds from where the migrated is yet to established. The migratory birds that travelled millions of kilometers to spend the winter in Africa, particularly Kenya with fewer places to land, threatening their health as they crowd in on one place to seek water, shelter and food.

At the heart of Mandera county, a stopover to millions of birds where El-wak town now provides critical habitats to more than 5 million birds. Mandera South headquarter turned out to be a popular destination for birdwatchers and conservationist. Hundreds of thousands of migrating birds come together to make the most magnificent formations and bird watchers "flock" to specific water points to take it all in while the NGBM collectively and harmoniously trying to witnessed the scenario. The birds migration patterns are changing every single day. This is a great animation of the power of migration.

One can't stand watching as passing near where they're drinking water, but the way they fly together is amazing and beautiful. It looks like they are moving to the sound of music.

The majority of the residents turned out to be a domestic tourist as a birdwatcher and taking photos at many different venues. For those birders among them, it's a spectacular view of a rare event only few old people ignore this and go on with their lives as normal.

Northern Kenya drought is having a huge impact on the birds that spend winter. NGBM team volunteered to help by keeping safety guards and promise to deliver clean water to refugee birds.

We have not had any rain of significance for a long time while the indigenous Trees are taking strain. The birds were exhausted and in desperate need of rest after flying for untold hours and miles on their journey from grounds.

Birds to be off on a hunt by both domestic and wild cat. Thousands of birds in El-wak are victims of it's circumstances, which is very sad. The cat went crazy with the bird coming on the pond, drinking and birthing. No one is protecting migrating birds as others are killing for no reason other than to allow sad, children to use stone to kill birds for leisure by using one stone to kill many birds, such kill is stupidity of highest standards.

Northern Kenya drought is having a huge impact on the birds that spend winter. The effects of drought and water diversions on migratory birds and other influences act as part of natural selection and migrating birds are feeling the real impact.

The migratory song birds face such harsh hurdles to survival and then they pile on obvious human impacts like drought, pesticides, deforestation and climate change.

Thousands of birds fly and seat on a tree that finally led to falling of indigenous trees, currently many trees are affected. This could have a significant impact on ecosystems everywhere along their migratory route.

As some residents suggested at mosque where Muslim meet, performing Congregational prayers. According to worshippers the migratory birds are not native and are found season in a decades but it's environmental impact is unbearable, from destroying grass, kitchen gardens, shrub tress and later the local residence suggested that it should either be shoo away during the night or eliminated from the area, this is an atrocity. But thanks to NGBM team after hearing it we make sure we started no single birds should be interfered in their new habitat.

NGBM team volunteered to help by keeping safety guards and promise to deliver clean water to refugee birds.

So graceful and amazing, you'll see the birds? Millions of birds migrating and flying in the sky, the drought hasn't ended.

NGBM team find new and exciting ways to engage the public as to provide water, protection and any negative impact on migratory bird habitats. In future NGBM as conservationist groups will prepare 2,000 acres of protected land and temporarily flooding them, for migratory birds traveling along the Northern region.

As conservationist, the lessons we learn from birds could help improve the design of long-distance automatous gliders and searching for water, grass and shelter over long distance.

KITCHEN GARDEN & MODERN FARMING

Nomad Green Belt Movement embarked on demonstration, mobilization and engagement on a campaign to empower rural-urban vulnerable households by giving them the right tools and knowledge, or skills to make a modern kitchen garden in respective homes for the community food basket to variable improve to produce their own food accessible throughout the year.

The NGBM project’s overall goal is to turns unused lawns in homestead into kitchen garden by bringing sustainable home garden to vulnerable people in need to plant fruit trees to fight hunger, poverty, climate change, rural migration and  contribute to reduce the food insecurity afflicting drought stricken communities of Northern Kenya as well as boost their economic stimulus through formation of kitchen gardens and linkages to markets.

For more inspiration, innovation and a positive environmental socio-economic empowerment with awesome professional volunteer expertise invite NGBM team to establish modern kitchen garden in your homes and be friends of environment and wildlife conservation.

Let's show concern and responsibly restore sanity in our environment.

If we don't pick it up, our litter can last longer than our lifetime. The task starts with me and you, can all volunteers donate five (5)minutes for clean up exercise to get rid of rubbish and tidy the environment.

Northern Kenya has some of the most beautiful wild animals ever seen. But unfortunately, we're losing wildlife species at an alarming rate. It is unacceptable for the government to turn a blind eye and ignore the concerns.

All creatures big or small deserve a place they can call home  safely in. We should create better environment for wildlife roaming around our planet. We should ponder on ways of making it conducivefor them.

With the expansion of rural-urban settlement, humans so cruelty keep building and taking the wildlife habitats away, soon the animals will have nowhere to go. Wildlife is facing several serious challenges, including increased pressures around and inside the habitats boundaries due to development that threatens to isolate the habitats and block important migratory routes, adapting to nomadic pastorolists movement and enable to avoid humans in their habitats. In the long-run, this could have severe impacts on wildlife population and the ecological wildlife habitats. Any action that could threaten the provision of conducive and safe environment to this precious commodity should be severely restricted, stopped and mitigation to reduce negative impacts on wildlife should be designed and enforced.

Globally, many people are not aware of how we are treating the wildlife. If within short period we wouldn't realise any changes; NGBM team will lobby for local, national and international support for wildlife and environmental conservation.

We need to use our common sense at its finest. Now we just need to break down barriers which are preventing the existing solutions to be exploited and implemented .

Please join the discussion to protect our wildlife, they are innocent, they depend on us.

THE CONTINUING QUARRY EXCAVATION BY MASONS AND QUARRY WORKERS ON RANGES OF HILLS OR MOUNTAINS IS A WORRYING TREND

NGBM Executive Director Mr. Abdikalif Adan previously appreciated the beautify of mountains and hills scenes around Mandera county. In regard, contemplated dreams of greening hills tops with very attractive flora. NGBM is proudly touched by the beauty, diversity and its significance for protectionism.

We learned many forms of hills damages that many have not yet discovered. NGBM volunteer's team had the opportunity of raising several alarm over the widespread of the Quarry activities that is damaging Mandera County hills that brings us great sadness to hear the news of the quarry activities that are still ongoing.

In many years of hills strength memories, it will never be the same as many people will only have beautiful memories of childhood of the hills that they will live on where many lived around raised their children and animals in these once beautiful hills surrounding.

The people that worked and/or lived in the affected and surrounding areas were very friendly, illiterate nomadic pastrolist people who doesn't know the importance of preserving hills.

At this time, conditions remain extremely dangerous with increased deforestation we witnessed. In addition, unpredicted, extreme weather conditions on high winds will also caused numerous few trees that remained to fall and environmental degradation that is increasing to continue until further action is taken.

NGBM are working to assess the damaged caused by quarry people and coordinate with local communities to provide structure protection. We are surely going to pray for these quarry activities to be stopped. This is terrible for all of us. Hopefully conditions will change soon and put out these before more damage is done.

Let this be contained and over soon as NGBM will sincerely support those who call the hill special place they call home. NGBM thoughts are with all the nomadic pastrolist residents, the beautiful hills landscape and all the animals that live there. In future, the hills if protected, planted Trees well the trees will regrow and the old hills will again live as the picnic area.

NOMAD BEYOND ZERO WASTE MANAGEMENT & CLEAN UP DRIVE, SATURDAY 3rd WEEKS OF EVERY MONTH

The NGBM is deeply concerned about the affairs of our environment and the condition of the world we live in, motivation for future generations. We're also advocating for sustainability of groundwater & device ways of reducing hotels polluting the atmosphere. The Nomad Beyond Zero & Clean up drive is timely actionable program prepared towards developing the aesthetic out looks of towns, very pleasing for trade, transportation of goods-people and healthy environment for communities dwelling and well being of the World.

As part of NGBM pledges to conserve the environment and ecosystem, it's time for our nation to go Nomad Beyond Zero Waste, teach our people to be resourceful and creative in finding proper dumpsite for every item we dispose off as zero waste starts at home. Let's begin to mobilize ourselves at personal level to ensure that our generation will bequeath a legacy of hope to our nation for a sustainable friendly environment.

The big question is: How prepared are we to take responsibilities for our actions? Are we up to the task to join, learn and apply Nomad Beyond Zero Waste & clean up drive on every 3rd Saturday of every month for the sake of our environment?

Besides, there is urgent need to fully implement and enforce environmental laws on waste management in Kenya and all over the world if commitment is inconsistent.

As the long rains have delayed affecting especially the plants or crops which are under strains. The domestic animals are known to feed on paper bags which is detriment to their digestive system leading to their death.

The disorderly act of throwing off empty plastic bottles and paper bags is affecting the environment. They are both dangerous to human, plants and animals. The plastic bags strewn all over once left lying for too long, releases toxics due to the scorching heat, the toxic chemicals affects both human and plants respiratory system. Whether you burn or throw plastic bags, all the chemicals are released which can cause harm to the society.

Just be careful using polythene bags to cover plants. Plants can't breathe when covered with plastic bags -so you can only keep it on there the few hours it's below freezing. If you let the plastic coverings on for too long, plants can overheat fast once the heat of the sun is high.

With ban on use of plastic bags in various cities and increased awareness on the dangers of plastic, people are accepting use of biodegradable materials. A plastic plate is literally 90% air and is easily bendable.

The NGBM launched a beautifully hand woven baskets which are environmentally friendly, provides  solution- to replace plastic or paper bags.

As a pilot project NGBM team introduced the use of basket bag to replace paperbags at groceries. The basket bags are economically friendly and cost effective to be used for many years.

The Nomad Beyond Zero Waste & Clean up Drive starts philosophically at home and total ecosystem conservation or restoration ties with the planet. Lets stand up to devising systems that ensures sustainability thus reduce, reuse, recycle, segregate and compost. It takes self-discipline to solve water pollution, air pollution and soil pollution caused by plastic bags. The answer is not solely about government campaigns or organizations. It starts within yourself aright at your own backyard and inside house. Let's unite to mobilize every homesteads and communities to seek education and enforcement of environmental laws to come up with total ecosystem conservation.

NOMAD GREEN BELT MOVEMENT FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AMB. ABDIKALIF ADAN THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TOWARDS THE PEOPLE OF NORTHERN KENYA & IT'S ENVIRONMENT.

This is a huge and beautiful moment for Nomad Green Belt Movement professionals volunteer team!

Big respect to Amb. Adan for 9 good years of dedication and incredible work. We were built for this moment, and we've got work to do ahead of us!

"I'd like to take these precious moment to hail my grandparents who have continued to provide dedicated years to imparting wisdom, history how Northern Kenya people had a sense of destiny into the lives of their livestock, children, property and how they have been marginalized through story telling from the history they gained from their parents, grandparents, friends and neighbours.

My sense of services to humanity, wildlife,  environmental conservation and peace was shaped by both of them as they narrated and shared with me many different massacres, tribal clashes, military brutality, drought, El-nino, terror attacks,  forceful collection of taxes that led to many people crossed border to a neighbouring countries that led them to change their citizens and many years of hiding in the jungle that contributed to their children illiteracy and health menace.

I will remain brave, recognizing and raising my voice against injustice promoted against the defenseless Nomadic people and it's environment. It takes wisdom to detect and speak out boldly against institutionalized social injustices to address and overcome a repeat.

There is no duty more pertinent than ensuring that the rights of every citizens, property is respected and protected. By there selfless life sacrifice and innocently brutalized, tortured, innocently and there illiteracy to advocates for there rights and that taught us all that service to humanity is not something we do during our comfortable time, but that it is the very purpose of life.

This sadness is a calling empathy urging action. We must collectively, lovingly and courageously work for freedom and justice for Norhern people and by extension, all global citizens.

I wrote and dedicated, "THE NOMAD GREEN NEWSLETTER", in hopes that it speaks to those who find empowerment within their own resiliency. I will be sharing it openly, we need to share this more than ever as we're at a crossroads of opportunity.

May the soul of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. From God we come, and unto God we shall all return. Through their sacrifice they contributed to the change of our region and country at large, we have gotten the change, but they didn't taste the change.

Let's always acknowledged our rights, power and strength when standing ground with the odds always against us.

My both parents and grandparents instilled in my volunteer journey to be brave, patient, never took any steps back from fulfilling my dream and focus regardless of its challenges or strengths. Thus, that keeps me a real community crusader, role model, game changer and that keeps me strong firm to these days. With such inspiration or courage, passion and dedication I get exposed to make a difference in my society and it's environment.

My dedication and love for my people, country is a light that I pray shall forever be kept burning. I dedicated my special multiple awards, precious time, financial resources, knowledge and sacrifice my life in insecurity prone area to those innocent people of Northern Kenya who have been confronted by historical injustices, insecurity, identify crisis, food insecurity, drought and marginalization before and after independence.

"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." -Martin Luther King Jr.
I will never, ever regret my volunteerism.

But none of the above challenges and history have stopped who I was. I dare, dream and believe. I was a true global citizen who was  born to do it and change.

Happy new year 2017, InshAllah!

Thank you, God bless you all!"
